Brown-nosing

...another project I want to get done for my Dad...for Father's Day, or maybe before, if he's in need of a lift. It will go above his desk...the cross for obvious reasons (!)...and the green because it's supposed to be a 'calming' color and my mom says he has a hard time being 'calm' at his desk lately...I imagine part of that is...TAXES!!!! Hahaha...and mom's shopping.....so all this needs is the backing, quilting, and binding... ( I am the favorite child at the moment...or maybe I better call and see if my brother has been up to no good (or good good). Love ya, Rick!

It's a beautiful 'thang'

...when a friend says do a pattern and it turns out as easy and cute as she said it would be!

go look at hers...they are so neat. The pattern is Hexagon Star tabletopper from the Jan/Feb issue of Fons and Porter's "Love of Quilting". Mine is not bound yet and I had a hard time right at first...BUT it was BLONDE error. Once I saw my mistake it was a breeze and cute...I just used some fabrics that were in my scrap bin...I may make some matching potholders and gift it!

I finished it ... now to make a few potholders to go with it.

Foot Fetish (not that kind...duh)

I have a thing for sewing machine feet...always have. It's just like icing for machines...so when my friend Sandra HAD to have a Flower stitch foot, well so did I...I ordered mine off EBay.....

iblawson ...he's great and has LOTS of things for my sewing machine....so I got to looking around his site and saw some items I had always intended to get...then I got busy (Easter was coming, Keera had a seizure and I needed to take care of her (*read* hover over her until she gets more nervous than she is), my house needed cleaning, I'm a ditz, well, you get the idea...so today I decided to do a little straightening in the craft room....AHA!!!! Almost all of the 'new' feet I wanted to purchase...I already have . UnBeLiEvAbLe!!! well, not really. I do that all the time...so here are some feet...can you name them? and also a pic or 2 of what the flower foot can do...
The 4 feet are: an overcast guide foot, a low shank cording foot, the Little Foot, and a low shank edgestitching foot...now I can get BIZZY! (er).

Well, I wasn't going to say anything...but

Yesterday was a kind of busy day for me...hair, driver's license renewal, grocery store, and I needed to finish the binding on my Valentine wallhanging....I had a huge craving for cornbread last night, so I made some...and with tomatoes, cooked spinach, white northern beans, corn and some chicken breasts...I had me some good ole supper, my grand mother would be proud, actually my dad would, he thinks I never eat the 'good' stuff. Sometimes you just have to...

...so after dinner and a little clean-up and a little 'puter time, I decided to watch my favorite vampire of the year on Monnlighting AND finish up the border on my heart quilty...settled on the sofa, remote beside me 3 lights all around me so I could see...and I started stitching away...loving the moment...I heard Kim going in and out the doors and didn't pay any attention, I was on a mission to complete this by 11p...about 10 minutes later Kim was standing in doorway, clearing his throat with a package in his arms...hmmm, I thought , oh no, he's bought himself a new toy, wonder what it is, and what kind of bargain (he's awesome at finding bargains) he's found now, but I also didn't want to stop the stitching and get up (God forbid getting out of my finally found comfy sewing positon)...so I looked up at him and asked ..what'd ya find? He's grinning and says "this is for you and I was going to wait till tomorrow but I think you might like it now". I cannot imagine what I would want right now but I pretended a big smile and GOT UP...started opening my gift ...and OMG, he bought me a floor standing OTT light!!!!! Yes, I was jumping up and down,,,and yes he put it together quickly (5 min) and yes within 15 minutes (after a hug and a few kisses) I was hand binding with my OTT light and NO OTHER lights!!! You all gotta get one of these...he has a small one on his desk and I never touch it because I know I would have never returned it to him...what a great thing for him to have done...anyway, I did get the wall hanging done and I did get it done before 11p...

you see...

The real deal is....TODAY is my birthday and I'm 50 and I think I can deal with that...it's a really big step that I am saying this OUT LOUD (age issues)... I got phone calls and cards from my family yesterday telling me HB...and also telling me my gifts were sent late and to be expecting them sometime next week...most of these people grew up with me or raised me...don't they KNOW I LOVE PRESENTS and I want presents NOW...I am spoiled and I don't care...send me my presents, now. I really am not THAT selfish or spoiled or diva-ish. But I want what I want...I want to see my grandbabies along with #1 son and #1 dil (that's not happening right now), I want to see my #2 son (that's not happening right now), I want #3 son to get-a-life..or a-clue (not happening right now) and I want #4 son to find the $400 pair of glasses I had to buy because he lost the other $400 pair 2 weeks ago (not happening right now)....and I want my family and friends all safe and happy.

AND I WANT PRESENTS...and God understands that, HE gives presents all the time.

I also want someone to teach me how to lay out this blog....so frustrating.

...goodness is what it will take for me to explain WHY I have so many unfinished (UFO"S) quilt tops....

My top 10 reasons:

  1. I am easily bored.

  2. I put too much on my plate (y'know the thing when you were a kid and you piled food on your plate, only to find after 4 bites, you were FULL

  3. I must have ADD, (2 of the 4 boys do, I inherited it)

  4. I rebelling against my mom and dad (they would be apalled)

  5. I forget...nuff said.

  6. It's easier to watch tv doing a new project than to watch tv finessing a project.

  7. I have no floor space to lay out and sandwich larger items w/o Jiffy (the cat) or Keera (the husky-mix) from deciding they LOVE it and have to check it out...and then stay on it....had a few where I layed out to finish and Jiffy decided to make them his he took a pee...bad, bad kitty and he NEVER does that except on those projects!

  8. I procrastinate, that's different from forgetting.

  9. My binding skills are not up to (my) par.

  10. I like having a future (I cannot die with things left to do, right?)

In all actuality, this makes me sad. Some people have seen these and are waiting on them, a few for YEARS!

There are 2 of some of these, and there are some I know I have, but couldn't find, and there are also some other crafty sewing projects that need finishing (I love my serger)...and I am really scared to look in the sewing room closet or on the wall shelves...unh, unh, NOT today.

I get plenty of other things done, including some quilts that I give away. I do well under pressure and a deadline....so what EVIL has gotten hold of me? I don't even like half of these quilt tops anymore, that's how old some of these are...my tastes and skills have changed. So my goal for each month is to knock out 3 of these until they are done...just in time for Christmas, and beyond....but I saw some really cute stuff to make for Christmas and the twins are due, and my National Guard son may want a blankie from home, and my nieces love batiks (as do I), and.....oooooh, I need a sedative, and maybe some counselling. I dare ya to actually take pics of your UFO's and see if it's not just a little freaky...let me know how may you have.
